Alcampo equips its macro logistics platform with shelving from POLYPAL.

Alcampo, a retail company belonging to the French group Auchan, is a chain of supermarkets and hypermarkets with a presence in Europe and Africa. With over 40 years in Spain and a workforce of 24,000 people, it is one of the main distribution chains in the country.

Need

Alcampo’s new macro logistics platform responds to the company’s growth, as it previously operated with two warehouses in Madrid that had already reached a high level of saturation. To ensure its expansion and future, the company saw the need to increase its capacity in the supply and logistics chain.

Solution

The platform, which has an area of 98,500 m², has been equipped by POLYPAL with pallet racking, with a capacity for 32,200 pallets. Additionally, it incorporates 84 levels of dynamic roller shelving for picking tasks. With storage heights reaching 11.7 meters, the macro platform is optimized to maximize storage capacity.

The warehouse includes an ambient temperature zone of 65,750 m² for dry food products, cleaning supplies, and perfumery, and another zone of 32,750 m² with controlled temperature, intended for refrigerated and frozen products such as fruits, vegetables, and fish.

This logistics center, designed to operate 24/7, will manage the distribution of products to over 200 supermarkets and hypermarkets. The main advantage of the new facility is its ability to manage both multi-format and multi-channel operations. One of the major challenges of modern distribution is being able to supply both a hypermarket and a supermarket from the same warehouse. This new platform allows for managing different assortments, different ways of preparing goods, and different capacities. It is a multi-format and multi-flow platform, which involves managing both products with stock and those with same-day inbound and outbound operations.
