Fedefarma is the leading pharmaceutical distribution cooperative in Catalonia and ranks among the Top 3 of the Valencian Community. It operates 8 automated logistics centres 365 days a year to supply 4 deliveries a day via more than 600 routes. They handle up to 70,000 catalogued references, of which 36,000 are in stock.

Need

Thanks to the growth experienced by Fedefarma in the last ten years, the pharmaceutical distributor has reinforced its logistics for the expected ongoing expansion. The cooperative has built a new warehouse in Palau-Solità i Plegamans (Barcelona) to act as the regulating centre of the current 7 warehouses. This investment guarantees the right quality standards to ensure perfect order fulfillment for partner pharmacies.

Solution

During the design of this warehouse, Fedefarma particularly emphasised quality and being able to offer partner pharmacies added value services, such as to facilitate pharmacy offices placing orders online. This cooperative’s new centre is a truly logistic challenge conceived to respond to the entire medicine value chain.

To achieve this, on a built-up logistics surface of 19,400 m², POLYPAL installed:

Adjustable pallet racking:

• Storage capacity: 4,146 pallets
• Load unit: EURO pallet of 800 x 1,200 mm
• Maximum load: 1,000 kg/unit
• Safety and protections:

1. Rear safety mesh to prevent goods from falling onto adjoining pedestrian and work zones.
2. Frame protectors on the exposed ends of picking rows and evacuation tunnel frames

Live storage:

• Storage capacity: 2,820 boxes
• Load unit: boxes of 400x220x590 mm
• Maximum load: 10 kg/unit

Picking shelves:

• Storage capacity: 5,700 boxes
• Load unit: boxes of 400x800x500 mm
• Maximum load: 30 kg/unit
